Of baseball's many urban legends, few are as psychotic as the story of animal torture first told in Heat, the 1999 autobiography of Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden. In that book, Gooden gives a firsthand account of former teammate Kevin Mitchell drunkenly threatening his girlfriend with a 12-inch knife before cutting her cat's head "clean" off with the same.

Since then, Mitchell has repeatedly denied the story, but on Tuesday, fellow '86 Met Darryl Strawberry confirmed Gooden's version of events during an interview with HuffPost Live, saying, "Kevin Mitchell did do that."

Asked about the supposed pet beheading, Strawberry said, "That's a pretty good story. I think that's pretty accurate," smiling as he reminisced about the totally harmless, non-terrifying example of locker room zaniness.

Strawberry was quick to defend Mitchell, however, calling him a "super teammate" and "great person" who, just like anybody else might, "figured that the girlfriend was acting a little crazy, so I'll kill her cat."

"Kevin Mitchell, he's a different type of guy," chuckled ordained minister Strawberry, that "type of guy" apparently being the kind that cuts the heads off fucking cats.
