The latter was almost certainly the case this week when ClickHole—The Onion's BuzzFeed parody site—published "5 Tragedies Weirdly Predicted By Adam Sandler."

Being longtime fans of the listicle pioneer, Buzzfeed breathlessly wrote up the story, followed soon after by Huffington Post, Metro and Elite Daily.

In 2014, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and plausible but fake Internet garbage. A recent viral video of a bird pooping on Russian President Vladimir Putin falls into that last category, seemingly too mundane to even be worth faking.

Of baseball's many urban legends, few are as psychotic as the story of animal torture first told in Heat, the 1999 autobiography of Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden. In that book, Gooden gives a firsthand account of former teammate Kevin Mitchell drunkenly threatening his girlfriend with a 12-inch knife before cutting her cat's head "clean" off with the same.

According to Dan's Papers, one Sergio Eisalat (profession: reality TV star) had reported his copy of "the best egg salad recipe in the world" stolen, valuing the secret formula at $4,000 "for insurance purposes."

On Monday, serial fibbers World News Daily Report published an article titled, "Japanese Whaling Crew Eaten Alive by Killer Whales, 16 Dead," writing what has to be this year's first feel-good story about people being dismembered by wild animals.

Once again, garbage "satire" jerks Empire News have freaked out undiscerning Internet users, this time with an article titled "Body Found Under Motel Bed, Police Say It Has Been There At Least 5 Years."

Like any other shared space, public transit is gross. Even when the rules are clearly understood, people are going to do whatever they can get away with, whether that means clipping their nails, delivering racist tirades or ravenously eating potato chips off the floor. Plucking birds, however, is not gross—or at least shouldn't be if you've ever enjoyed a Spicy Chicken Sandwich that didn't stab your mouth with a hundred razor-sharp quills.

That Michele Bachmann, she sure says some wacky stuff, right? Well, what if she said something really wacky? That's the hi-larious gag "satire" news site KCTV7 ran with last week, publishing an article titled "Michele Bachmann Suggests Labor Camps for Immigrant Children."

News organizations treating The Onion's satire as reality is nothing new, but there's an especially tragic quality to the error when the dupe is one of the oldest science magazines in the country.

On Monday, totally fake and not real "satire" news site National Report published an article claiming they had obtained a leaked script of the upcoming Superman Vs. Batman [sic]: Dawn Of Justice, one that portrayed the Dark Knight as "an out-and-proud homosexual." Naturally, Internet bigots treated the report with their typical level of caution and skepticism, going completely bat-shit over the bat-rumors.
